Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

It goes without saying that the past several days have been very hectic. With this latest correspondence, I’m hoping to bring a better level of understanding to our shutdown and what is occurring.

First, the West Mifflin Area School District, will make available breakfast/lunch “grab and go” bags for our students and families.  There will be seven (7) locations where breakfast/lunch will be distributed beginning March 17th from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. daily.   The locations are as follows:

  • West Mifflin Area High School (back gym entrance)
  • West Mifflin Area Middle School (front main entrance)
  • Clara Barton (front main entrance)
  • Homeville (back circle)
  • Duquesne Elementary (Kennedy Avenue side of the building)
  • Mon View (front entrance area)
  • Emerson (front entrance area)

Our students and families should report to the facility that is CLOSEST to their home location to pick up the “grab and go” bags regardless of their age.   While meals can be picked up at these facilities they can not be consumed at the location but should be taken home.  If you have any issues, please contact your building principal so we can hopefully resolve any problems.

As far as school is concerned, at this time all of our buildings will be closed to students and no instruction will take place through March 27th.   At that time, the dangers of spreading the coronavirus will be reassessed to determine if the closure will be extended or schools will reopen.

In regards to making up these days, no clear guidance has been given and there is still a great deal of discussion.  At this point in time, there is a possibility that our school year could be extended in an attempt to get in 180 days of instruction but that is yet to be determined.

As for now, if you have any problems and/or issues, please notify the child’s principal.  We are here to provide as much support as we can through these difficult times.
