JOB TITLE: Mechanic
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
TERMS: (1) Full-time daylight shift; other hours as required

SUPERVISION: Public Works Director or designee
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Performs mechanical repairs and maintenance for all vehicles and equipment of Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repairs trucks, automobiles, construction equipment; determines causes of malfunctions.
Rebuilds motors, carburetors, and other related vehicle parts.
Changes tires, replaces bulbs, spark plugs and wiper blades.
Performs preventative maintenance as required.
Maintains records of service completed.
Insures applicable codes, regulations, and requirements for assigned projects are followed.
Other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or designee.
Assist in developing vehicle specifications.
Attends meetings and training as required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Pennsylvania, CDL license which must be maintained during duration of employment. At least six (6) year of experience in maintaining vehicles or heavy equipment of job is preferred or a combination of education, training and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools of the automotive or heavy equipment mechanic trade.
Must possess considerable knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and have knowledge of diagnostic equipment utilized in the job.
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the general public.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
Ability to write, read, and speak the English language fluently.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must possess a current Pennsylvania driver’s license with CDL endorsement.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Small power tools; hand tools; diagnostic equipment; phone; radio; fax and copy machine.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in the garage and quiet in the office.
